WHAT’S HAPPENING AT NINOVAN – 2026

2026 marks ten years of Ninovan. Throughout the year we will be hosting small events, gatherings, and community activities to celebrate the journey and support the continued care of the herd.

MARCH 21 „OUR ISLAND“ 10 YEAR CELEBRATION

Our friends at Our Island are celebrating 10 years, and they invited Ninovan to be part of the celebration — we’ll be behind the bar that evening.

Every drink helps feed a horse, and every Ninovan T-shirt helps care for the herd.

As it happens, this year Ninovan also marks 10 years of rescue work on Faial.

Join us on March 21 from 17:00 onward for the Our Island anniversary celebration.

There will be a children’s workshop, the presentation of the new MoMo children’s bookstore, vegetarian feijoada, music, and a jam session.

Rescue is urgent.

Care takes years.

And it takes a community to keep it going.

We look forward to seeing you there!

10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

On June 28th from 18:00 - SUNSET, we will gather at Ninovan to celebrate ten years of rescue, education, and community.

Fittingly, 2026 is the Year of the Fire Horse — a symbol of strength, spirit, and transformation.

Join us for a relaxed sunset evening with music, good company, and time with the herd.

There will be drinks, small bites, and of course our famous Ninovan Spritz.

Come celebrate the journey with us and raise a glass to the horses who brought us all together.

Ninovan music festival

The Ninovan Friends are once again organizing a special event to support the horses — this time a Ninovan Music Festival!

After unforgettable evenings like the Pirate Party and the Mad Hatter gathering, our friends are bringing the community together once more for a night of music, fun, and support for the herd.

Stay tuned for more details — coming soon!

The shape of change

International Art Symposium at Ninovan

September 1–15

From September 1–15, Ninovan will host The Shape of Change, an international art symposium bringing together artists from different disciplines and countries.

For two weeks, artists will work and create at Ninovan, drawing inspiration from the landscape of Faial, the rhythm of daily life at the sanctuary, and the presence of the horses.

The symposium explores themes of transformation, care, and coexistence — ideas that are deeply connected to the work we do at Ninovan.

During this time, art and daily life will naturally overlap. Visitors may see artists working on their projects, participate in small workshops, or simply experience the creative process unfolding around the sanctuary.

At the end of the residency, the public will be invited to a vernissage and exhibition, where the participating artists will present their work in a relaxed café-style gallery setting at Ninovan.

More details about participating artists and events will be announced soon.
